We live in a culture of war and you wonder why we have children shooting up their schools, or workers taking their frustrations with work out in a little target practice at the office, or life just sucks and the only way they can get the attention they want and need is by hurting people, i.e., take a gun and a lot of bullets down to their nearest mall, theater, school, park, etc., shoot the armed guard, and then see how well they are at hitting live moving targets. After all, most of these guys have all been trained by some of the very best video games. What armed guard stands a chance?
The Internet and media puts blood in the water and helps to create more monsters almost instantly. One man's bloody quest makes him a saint or a sinner, a revolutionary or a dictator; everyone wants to be heard.
Where are safe and secure places when what should be responsible gun owners are unable to keep their guns out of the hands of their own children? The gun is both a blessing and a curse. It reminds our government to fear the people, but those guns can just as quickly be turned on each other, and that is the curse. Guns become the answer to everything. Give us enough bombs and bullets and we can solve all the World's problems. That is treating the symptoms, not finding a cure.
Give up all our bombs and bullets and we can solve all the World's problems too. That is the only way we will ever find a cure for what ails us as a race of living intelligent beings. Return the gun back to its status as a tool to be treated with great respect, rarely used. The icon gun and the actual gun have become idols of worship. It is an idol to which the entire world bows. We have lost our true faith in the one that said, "Love one another," in all languages, in every faith, and in every culture on the planet.
We are buried daily in fluff by the media/Internet, hidden from the true news and those standing in the way of progress with a seemingly more pressing need. All the while in dark places men plot to control our lives, one way or another. A tiny bit of evil can corrupt the mightiest hero. That is how freedom is lost too. How will an armed guard protect us from that?
The U.S. Launched 201 Out of the 248 Armed Conflicts Since the End of WWII. Since the end of World War II, there have been 248 armed conflicts in 153 locations around the world. The United States launched 201 overseas military operations between the end of World War II and 2001, and since then, others, including Afghanistan and Iraq
Not only is war bad for civilians, it is also bad for the economy and makes us poor. The oligarchs are the only ones who benefit.
"The proportion of civilian deaths and the methods for classifying deaths as civilian are debated, but civilian war deaths constitute 85% to 90% of casualties caused by war, with about 10 civilians dying for every combatant killed in battle."
Since the United States was founded in 1776, she has been at war during 214 out of her 249 calendar years of existence. In other words, there were only 21 calendar years in which the U.S. did not wage any wars.
To put this in perspective:
* Pick any year since 1776 and there is about a 91% chance that America was involved in some war during that calendar year.
* No U.S. president truly qualifies as a peacetime president. Instead, all U.S. presidents can technically be considered “war presidents.”
* The U.S. has never gone a decade without war.
* The only time the U.S. went five years without war (1935-40) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.
